Time and Gold Mural, Randall Building, 555 West Georgia Street

Painted in 1993 on the side of the heritage-listed Randall Building at 555 West Georgia Street, this large-scale mural shows a master goldsmith and apprentices at work. The image was adapted from a 1698 copper engraving by German artist Christoph Weigel, then reinterpreted for downtown Vancouver as part of the building’s early 1990s renewal linked to jeweler Toni Cavelti.

For years, it worked as quiet street-level storytelling at the corner of West Georgia and Richards, a detailed scene of handwork set against the backdrop of office towers and constant foot traffic. In January 2024, the mural was removed, and the wall was finished over during building work, with reports citing envelope issues and repair recommendations as the reason it could not remain in place.
