Burrard Inlet Shipping Lane and Port Terminals
Burrard Inlet, the eastern arm of the Strait of Georgia, is the stage on which Vancouver’s port city identity plays out day after day, with freighters and tankers sliding past container yards under the North Shore mountains. This photo captures that layered relationship: working terminals in the foreground, deep-water shipping in the midground, and the residential slopes of the North Shore behind it all. The Port of Vancouver, administered by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, is Canada’s largest port, and the scale of the landscape makes sense once you know how much cargo moves through this inlet each year.
