Quay Cranes at the Port of Vancouver
The ship-to-shore cranes in this frame belong to DP World’s Centerm container terminal, one of the Port of Vancouver’s key nodes for Pacific trade. The scene is pure working waterfront: stacked containers, heavy steel geometry, and the modular logic of global shipping made visible in a single glance. DP World completed the Centerm Expansion Project in 2023, a CAD $350 million rebuild that lifted capacity to about 1.5 million TEUs per year and added new super post Panamax and Neo Panamax quay cranes, along with upgrades that include shore power capability and electrification measures aimed at reducing terminal emissions. It is industrial infrastructure, but also a form of contemporary city-making, shaping how goods, trucks, rail, and shoreline space interact with Vancouver’s tight geography.
